Worthwhile to check details of travel insurance
Tuesday 29th July 2008
WE recently conducted a survey that found that 75 per cent of people do not check the terms and conditions of the travel insurance policy they buy, and over half actually go on holiday with no insurance cover at all.
As the summer holiday season has started, older people in Bolton who are planning to travel and perhaps take their grandchildren on a trip abroad must make sure they have the right travel insurance.
Most travellers automatically assume they are covered for cancelling their holiday or cutting it short, for travel delays, loss of luggage, medical expenses and accidents abroad.
However, this is not always the case. People can find themselves in expensive and traumatic situations when they are abroad.
Travellers who are booking insurance should: l Check whether their insurance covers any activities they are planning and also what the maximum age is under the terms of the policy. Many companies only cover those aged under 65.
l Shop around to find a good price and the right product, rather than opting to travel without cover. Cheaper policies will usually have less cover.
l Consider annual multi-trip insurance if you make several trips a year. You could save time and money.
l Ensure the policy will refund the full cost of the holiday and pay out if there is a need to cancel or cut short a trip because of illness...
